Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may automatically record basic technical details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help aggregate traffic patterns, such as which pages are viewed and where a visit ends. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Operate, secure, and improve site performance
- Diagnose errors and other technical problems
- Understand which pages are useful to visitors
- Display advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site explains how Summit County Sheriff, Utah Courts, the Utah Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Identification, and the Utah Sex, Kidnap, and Child Abuse Offender Notification and Registration Website provide access to their own sources. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and we are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Official Utah record access is separate from this privacy policy. Summit County requests are governed by the Government Records Access and Management Act, while BCI collection and dissemination are controlled by Utah Code §53-10-108.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review those terms before sending a query because we do not control them.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Summit County offices, Utah court and agency sites, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's own privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal details.
Advertising companies may use their systems to measure activity across sites and select ads. Their tracking is not operated by us.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by us. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used for information we collect. No internet system is fully secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach or loss will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable Utah and federal law may provide rights in addition to those listed here. GRAMA governs Utah government records and does not turn this private site into a public records office. You may ask to:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or law change. A new version will appear here with its effective date.
